" Souplesse " is French for Flexibility.
This serie started one Sunday afternoon as I was walking on Orchard Road in Singapore.
At that time of the year, Various Artistes performs along the street.
I was stunned by the performance of these Four amazing circus acrobats from Mongolia.
I simply approach them and invited them to join me for a photo shoot in the studio.
I started by dressing them up differently from their usual circus outfits. Then I portrayed them individually as opposite to their usual group perfomance. All together this was a fantastic opportunity to show their art form with an unexpected " twist ".
Strings are a recurrent element in my art. They represent the idea of " constraint ". In this serie I covered the model with strings and bandages to represent all the efforts and constrains each girl imposes on themselves. In order to reach such flexibility, the bodies went through so much tension.
